10Gigabit Ethernet connectivity, XENPAK-based
This module provides an ultra-high-performance 10 Gigabit Ethernet connection. 10 Gigabit Ethernet is a standards-based method for connecting at performance 10x that of Fast Ethernet, at 10 Gigabits per second, while retaining critical Ethernet properties such as pack format.The module requires a XENPAK-style transceiver, sold separately, to provide the physical media connection.

XENPAKs offered by 3Com for the SuperStack 3 Switch 3870 include 10GBASE-LR for single-mode fiber up to 10 Km, 10GBASE-ER for single-mode fiber up to 40 Km, and 10GBASE-CX4 for copper-based connections up to 15 Meter using a compatible 4x InfiniBand cable from an approved vendor.

10Gigabit Ethernet is the perfect aggregation technology when deploying gigabit to the desktop or for interconnecting core and distribution switches. Use a 10Gigabit Ethernet connection for the SuperStack 3 Switch 3870 to connect to a 3Com Switch 7700 with a similar module, to a higher-performance 10-Gigabit capable aggregation switch like the 3Com Switch 8800, or to another switch with a standards-based 10GBASE-X connection.

Connect up to four 10 Gigabit links aggregated together across a resilient stack to provide up to 80Gbps connections to the core of the network, while providing high performance resiliency preventing a single point of failure in the network infrastructure.

Provides a single high-performance fiber optic connection between devices for bandwidth intensive applications.

Provides a migration path from multiple aggregated Gigabit Ethernet links to high performance 10Gigabit Ethernet switch-to-switch connections.

Uses industry-standard XENPAK modular transceivers, sold separately, to provide a flexible physical media connection. View under "Required and Optional Products" to see the list of 3Com XENPAK transceivers qualified for this module.
